I stumbled upon this British series a while back while browsing through Netflix catalog.
Now we have seen futuristic worlds in thousands of movies and books and novels and hundreds of other platforms. what’s so different with this one?

What BLACK MIRROR shows is the honest and brutal truth. Are we really going to be like this after 10, 20, 50 years?
The series is an anthology series with a very different approach. all episodes are different from each other , the cast is different and the plot is different. Unlike other anthology series we have seen before , there’s no announcement before each episode nor one specific actor playing different characters throughout the series. What connects them is this simple idea. ‘Dark side of this technology that we are using every day’.
About naming the series black mirror – The showrunner Charlie Brooker explained the series’ title to The Guardian, noting: “If technology is a drug – and it does feel like a drug – then what, precisely, are the side-effects? This area – between delight and discomfort – is where Black Mirror, my new drama series, is set. The ‘black mirror’ of the title is the one you’ll find on every wall, on every desk, in the palm of every hand: the cold, shiny screen of a TV, a monitor, a smartphone”.
The series has 2 seasons each consisting of 3 episodes plus one extra Christmas special episode. With just 7 stand alone episodes this series (for me at least) has achieved great success. Every episode is amazing and bizarre at the same time with a big twist at the end.
So this series works on shocks and twists for every episode, yes. But for the audience , you know these shocks are coming. I got scared and more scared as I proceeded with following episodes mostly because it threatened my very own existence. ‘What if this really happens ? Am I too dependent on technology? can I even live without a smartphone?’

These episodes deal with a variety of subjects .‘The National Anthem’ takes the subject of terrorism , misuse of twitter and facebook and other social networks. The pilot episode is bizarre in every possible angle and you’ll want to stop watching it as soon as you start it. My advice- don’t , hold on and watch the whole pilot. The series asks you to broaden your horizons , think outside the box and imagine beyond your limits. ( Do what it says)

I won’t give much away with the plot but this 3rd episode talks about relationships and marriage. There’s one episode talking about politics and another talking about life after death. ( Get ready for a crazy ride)

Imagine every episode is taking place in another universe. Easy for you to understand the ideas behind each episode and less use of logical reasoning. Some ideas are far fetched and maybe labeled as extreme but believe in them for that instance and enjoy the ride.
Go and watch this series ASAP. this is something that will stay with you for a long time. It makes you think about our own existence.
One more thing – as Netflix picked ‘Black Mirror’ for the 3rd season, there’s gonna be 12 brand new episodes in next season. 12 more reasons to be happy.
